Every part of the computer is very important whether it is a small part or the bigger one. Every hardware of the PC has its time limit for performing better. Keyboard is one of them.
Is your Caps Lock indicator is no longer working? There are multiple reasons which cause this issue like Upgrading Windows, malfunctioning of the hardware etc.
The Caps Lock Indicator is a small light on the keyboard which indicates us whether it is turned on or not.

1. Restart the PC:
The most common troubleshooting step is to restart the PC. As our PC is a combination of hardware and software so there might be a possibility of glitch due to some unforeseen reason in the Desktop which keep the Indicator light shut down.
So, try to restart the PC and check that the light is wrking fine. If it is not working then there is some other reason for the issue so try the below mentioned steps.

2.Unplug and plug the keyboard:

Sometimes due to improper electricity supply or keyboard is not properly attached to the CPU which cause this issue. So, unplug the kkeyboard and again plug it properly.

3. Update Keyboard Driver:

An outdated and unupdated driver can cause this problem.

Below are following steps which will help in updating the Driver.

Step 1: Open Control Panel and search for Device Manager.

Step 3: Expand the “Keyboards” section.
Step 4: Right-click on your keyboard device and select “Update Driver.” or In the upper menu line Click on the “Update the Device“.

Step 5: Follow the prompts to search for and install any available updates for the keyboard driver.
Step 6: Restart your computer to complete the update process and post restarting the computer check after pressing the Caps key indicator light is working.

 

4. An issue with the operating System:
Sometimes there is an issue in the operating system which create problematic scenarios with different hardwares.
If any major and minor updates have been done and due to this issue is coming then try to restore the previous system settings. In windows luckily we can restore the previous version with the System Restore Feature.
Below are the steps for restoring the system:

Step 1: Open the “Control Panel” and search for “System” in the Search bar.

follow the instructions during the restoration process. Post restoration check the indicator light. Check whether the Windows 11 Caps Lock Light is not working problems is resolved or not.

5. Check for updates to the operating system:

There are chances that the updates have been rolled out by Microsoft and latest updates are not implemented yet which cause the problem.
Below mentioned steps are for checking the Windows Updates. Follow the steps for checking whether any update is pending or not.

Step 1: Open the Setting Window.
Step 2: Go to the “Windows Update.”

7. A problem with the computer’s BIOS:
BIOS stands for Basic Input/ output System. It is a low-level software which controls the hardware of the PC. If there is an issue in the BIOS , it may create the malfunctioning of the software like corruption in the software as well as the hardware malfunctioning etc.
So, check that BIOS is proper.
To check and solve the problem related to the BIOS, follow the below steps :

Step 1: During the Boot processing press the (Del/Delete, F2, F10) keys to open the settings.
Step 2: Check for the Error Codes that may show the BIOS issue.
Step 3: Run the Diagnostic test to check the health of BIOS.
Step 4: Check and install if any update is available for the BIOS.

8.Problem with the keyboard driver:

An outdated and corrupted keyboard driver can create an issue with the proper functioning of the keyboard like indicator light will not work and keys will not work properly.
So, ensure that the Keyboard driver is configured correctly.

9. Enable Alert Sound for Caps Lock:

If the Caps Lock light is not working then you have the option to enable an sound alert. By this feature when you press the Caps Lock key to activate uppercase and lowercase different types of sound notifications can be heared.

To enable the sound alert follow the steps :

To check whether sound notification is enabled or not press the Caps Lock key. When you press the Caps Lock button a ping sound will be heard.

10. Repair the Keyboard:

If the above methods or the steps didn’t solved the Caps lock indicator light issue then there is a chance that the indicator itself is defective because using keyboard for a long time can cause the wear and tear on the board panel.

So, take the keyboard to the service center. There the technician can check whether the keyboard is damaged or not. There they will repair and change the key.

 

11. Run the Keyboard Troubleshooter:

If the above steps didn’t worked then try to run troubleshooter for the keyboard:

Step 1: Press Windows + R , run box will appear.

Step 3: Run Windows device diagnostic tool using Run box.
Step 4: Press Enter.
Step 5: Click Next and the device diagnostic tool will scan for hardware changes.
Step 6: After that Use Windows keyboard troubleshoot tool
Step 7: Follow the instructions issued by the tool to fix any issue with the problematic hardware on the PC.

12. Fix a hardware problem:

After a long usage of the any hardware it may not work properly . If the Caps Lock indicator is noot working then there might a reason that keyboard harware is not working properly. Try to use different keyboard and check that the issue persists or not.

13. Use an External Keyboard:

If the stock keyboard is not working then try to external keyboard.
